How to achieve a fine scraped texture finish onto masonry

How to achieve fine texture scrape finish

Finer textures are becoming more and more popular as building designs look for crisper and cleaner lines and architectural detailing. Our monocouche renders benefit from being algae-resistant and UV-resistant to offer a low maintenance finish.

weberpral monocouche scraped system

The weberpral monocouche fine scraped system is suitable for application directly onto various types of masonry including brickwork, blockwork, and concrete.

Do you need a preparatory key/stipple coat?

Monocouche is a through-coloured, one coat render which is suitable for application onto various types of masonry including brickwork, blockwork, and concrete.

Renders are not adhesives and therefore require a substrate with good suction and key to ensure good adhesion. If you are applying onto either of the following, further considerations apply:

  • Brickwork without recessed mortar joints
  • Concrete

In these circumstances, application of a stipple coat — also known as a key coat — such as weberend aid is required. Use our guide on rendering onto surfaces with poor key to learn how to do this. Once suitable key has been achieved, it is possible to apply a Monocouche render such as weberpral MF and finish with a fine scraped texture. Application tutorials can be found on the product page.

Colour charts

Available in 4 popular colours (Chalk, Silver Pearl, Ivory and Cream), weberpral MF offers a finer texture due to the smaller aggregates found in the render. Typically these aggregates are up to 1.5mm in size, compared to ~2.2mm in standard renders.

Fine texture offers the possibility to create more crisp ashlar and quoin architectural features.

Things to consider

weberpral MF cannot be applied onto render carrier board or insulation board. Instead:

  • For render carrier board, a textured finish can be achieved using the weberend MT system
  • For insulation board, a normal scraped texture can be achieved using the webertherm XP system
By using a tooth scraper, a traditional scraped finish can be achieved using weberpral M, our through-coloured, one-coat render which is ready-mixed, cementitious and weather resistant. Resistant to algae, our monocouche renders are suitable for most types of brick or blockwork.

How it's done

Once monocouche render has been applied, use a toothed scraper in a circular motion to achieve the desired scraped texture. Watch the video tutorial to see how it's done.

An extra layer of protection

Our monocouche renders are algae-resitant and UV-resistant, but for an extra layer of protection, consider applying weberend protect. This highly hydrophobic, colourless coating protects renders from water, oil and graffiti whilst maintaining the appearance of render and allowing it to breathe.
