EASEL Project, Leeds

weberpral M monocouche render has been used for 53 new build homes in a regeneration programme in Leeds. Four different render colours have been applied through the development matched with a contrasting window trim colour band to give a stunning, modern visual effect.

These new build properties by national affordable housing provider, Affinity Sutton,  are part of Leeds City Council’s EASEL project, a £1.2billion scheme for the east and south of Leeds, that will create bright, new residential communities with affordable, attractive and high quality mixed tenure housing, that encourages current and new residents to achieve diverse and sustainable neighbourhoods. Two and three bedroom houses and bungalows are being constructed in the initial phase of this long term programme for the area.

The main construction contractor is Bullock and the properties have been designed by the Ainsley Gommon practice. The weberpral M render system application has been handled expertly by Slimline Building Services of Bradford.

weberpral M is a one-coat, ready mixed, cementitious, through-coloured render available in 24 colours. Factory produced and ready mixed for product consistency, it requires only water to be added on site. Highly weather resistant and suitable for application to most types of block or brickwork, this through-colour render requires no decoration. The finish is achieved by scraping when the weberpral M is set but not fully hardened.

Steve Hughes, programme manager for Bullock on the Halton Moor site, is full of praise for this Weber render system. “I know from past experience that the longevity of the Weber render system is excellent. The application here has made the properties really stand out with crisp lines, interesting colours and we know that they have tough, weatherproof skins.”

Raquel Feliciano of Ainsley Gommon’s office in Merseyside, led the design team with a clear brief from the EASEL partners. “Fortunately this clear site enabled us to plan the community element fully. The homes are modern and to a high technical specification. We have used the weberpral M monocouche render to enhance the clean finish of the buildings and the colour choice available also helps us. The aim was to design Code Level 3 homes and adding solar panels contributes to the Lifetime code.”

Render application is the responsibility of Slimline Building Services and managing director and founder, John Hallis, has been actively involved throughout the project. “Over 20 years we have built a close working relationship with Weber, especially the technical team, and this ensures projects like EASEL receive the best application process with the best specification materials. weberpral M is a proven finish that has protected and decorated many thousands of homes across Europe in recent years and these homes in Halton Moor will provide excellent levels of comfort in pleasing surroundings for the residents of Leeds.”

In addition to the pleasing aesthetics and proven technical attributes, weberpral M render also provides an assured, long-lasting weather protective skin for the homes that have been designed to achieve the Code for Thermal Homes Level 3 which will ensure minimal energy costs for residents.
