Foxley Place: Looking fetching in Fetcham

While it’s unlikely to come as a surprise that swathes of people choose to move out of London each year, this has been accelerated more recently by the rise in hybrid working and soaring house prices. At the height of the pandemic in 2021, a record 100,980 people swapped their bustling city routine for a slower pace of life in the country.

According to findings from Compare My Move, the South East of England was the most popular region to swap to in 2022, accounting for 35% of all London moves.

One of the most sought-after locations is Surrey, from where it’s convenient to commute into the capital while still being surrounded by beautiful countryside.

In 2023, Foxley Place was built as an exclusive cul-de-sac development of four substantial family homes in Fetcham.

Luxury living

Built on existing private land, the high-end development consists of two detached and two semi-detached five and six-bedroom homes designed by ABL3 Architects.

Each home is arranged over three floors, boasting three separate living spaces which are expertly framed with deep coffered ceilings and ambient mood lighting. Energy-efficient bi-fold doors extend across the full width of the ground floor to help give a light and bright feel to the living space and provide access to a paved terrace. They were built to the highest specification by main contractor GPS Projects Ltd, which operates principally across London and the South East. It specialises in housing, commercial and retail, education, care, leisure, and groundworks.

Achieving a stunning exterior

For the outside of the properties, the client opted for a modern look to complement the high-quality feel of the interiors. To help with this, GPS Projects Ltd enlisted the help of Michael Walls, who runs his own rendering company, Monocouche Mick Ltd.

As the name suggests, Michael specialises in applying Monocouche render – which Weber was responsible for bringing to the UK over 30 years ago.

Having used its range – which includes the original Monocouche render weberpral M – since 1994, Michael is familiar with Weber.

The one-coat through-coloured render has earned itself an enviable reputation throughout the construction industry, having become highly regarded for its quality, usability, workability, longevity and consistent results.

For these reasons, the team from ABL3 Architects specified weberpral M for this new-build project. It was applied directly onto blockwork in shade Ivory to achieve a modern scraped textured finish.

Besides the speed of application, another notable benefit of this product is the fact it’s through-coloured so doesn’t need additional paint to get it to the desired shade, and is available in a wide range of colours.

What’s more, it has been specifically formulated to withstand the weather conditions in the UK, so it continues to look its best all year round.

Staying sustainable

The properties were designed with sustainability in mind; they are all heated using an air source heat pump and have EV charge points.

The chosen render also boasts sustainability credentials. As part of the commitment to lessening its impact on the environment, Weber became the first manufacturer in the UK and Ireland to release an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for monocouche render, helping specifiers make informed, sustainable choices when selecting finishes.

An EPD is a third-party certified document based on data obtained through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Valid worldwide and accepted in several rating schemes such as BREEAM, EPDs detail the environmental performance lifecycle of the product and describe how they impact the environment at different stages of the manufacturing process. They also highlight how production waste is reduced and reused, the use of renewable energy sources and tracks if waste is sent to landfill.

The rendering on the homes in the Foxley Place development took around four weeks and was completed in November 2023. They were marketed at prices starting from £1,495,000 by Patrick Gardner in early 2024.
