Saint-Gobain Weber supports BBC One's DIY SOS: The Big Build Kettering

Saint-Gobain Weber donated products & application services - by Phillip Powell & Mike Atthis - to a deserving family from Kettering, featured on the BBC One series 'DIY SOS: The Big Build'.

Midwife Lindsey married (ex-Royal Engineer) Shaun McAuley on the 12th of December 2019. With two children of their own and two daughters from Lindsey’s previous marriage, the family were united by marriage and excited about their future together. In the summer of 2021 Shaun fell ill, initially he had an operation on his kidneys and bowel but within months was struck down by an aggressive cancer and tragically passed away on November 2021. Lindsey and her four children were obviously devastated, with their grief compounded by the fact that their home was uninhabitable.

Before Shaun’s cancer diagnosis, the couple began an ambitious building project to extend the house and create space for the family to live together. A local builder worked with them to put in foundations, the walls and roof and get the extension up to first fix. The plan was for Shaun to finish the build himself. A family torn apart by illness, loss and terrible grief, needed the help of DIY SOS along with volunteers to complete their build and bring the family back home.

Saint-Gobain Weber donated several products along with the help from our Applications Managers Phillip Powell and Mike Atthis. webersil P was applied to the front of the property over existing painted render and weberend one coat dash to the rear onto new masonry using a PFT Ritmo render pump, the first DIY SOS in 20 years to feature machine applied render!

Paul Lake, Managing Director, said:

I was touched by the plight of this unfortunate family who have lost their loved one and are without their family home, which to most of us is our kingdom and a place we feel safe and loved. This project will really make a profound difference to this family’s quality of life. A life which has been so dramatically affected by loss and disruption.”
