Co-op Funeralcare, Brighouse, West Yorkshire

The ground floor at the single-storey structure was constructed from narrow hollow core precast concrete units measuring 250mm deep x 350mm wide.  The units were supported by the masonry walls forming a full height basement used for general storage.  A structural assessment of the basement was carried out as large pieces of concrete had been falling from the soffit above.  Following the site inspection it was recommended that the bottom section of the hollow core slabs be completely removed as the structural integrity was compromised.   The down-stand ribs had to be repaired followed by the application of anti-carbonation protection.  Concrete repair specialist Frescrete Ltd based in Leeds were appointed for the works. 

webercem concrete repair system was specified, a multi-component system compliant with BS EN 1504 for protective coatings and concrete patch repairs. 

The system includes webercem bondcoat, a cementitious bonding aid, which provides high initial grab to improve the build of the repair mortar and promote the bond to the concrete.  It contains fibres for improved thixotropy, is solvent free and only requires mixing with clean water onsite.

The next component in the system is a lightweight, polymer modified webercem HB40 mortar for high-build structural repair and levelling.  The product has been formulated to comply with the requirements of BS EN 1504-3 as an R3 mortar. 

The repair was then made good with webercem fairing coat providing a high quality level surface before finishing with webercote smooth for excellent anti-carbonation protection.  It has a minimum 15 years life expectancy and is protective, durable and decorative. webercote smooth can be applied by brush, roller and spray and is resistant to chloride ingress.  It is available in four key colours of white, light grey, mid grey and magnolia.
