Docklands Light Railway

The Docklands Light Railway links Canning Town to London City Airport, a total distance of 4.5km. The pads beneath the rails required grouting to distribute the load and ensure the rail was supported to the correct line and level. Approximately 22,000 pads required grouting. Due to the number of plates to be grouted, a grout with superior quality flow was required.

webertec EP pourable grout was trialled on site to satisfy AMEC Spie that the criteria for flow and effective bearing area were met.

The concrete under each plate was scabbled to achieve a minimum 15mm clearance. Formwork was erected around the plates, clipped into position and sealed to prevent grout escaping. Hoppers were then constructed in accordance with Weber recommendations to achieve a head of grout and increase the speed of flow.
